The beautiful thing about the Internet has always been about two things: 1.) cats and 2.) the high-quality and transparent online dating scene.
Just playing.
However, sometimes when you least expect it, the viral universe can do wonders for a worthy cause. A social-media savvy daughter used this idea in the most positive sense, harnessing Twitter to promote a new hashtag around her mother's in-need-of-some-help dating life.
Enter the hashtag #DateDiane.
Attention Twitter. I'm launching a campaign to get my mom a date in the next 48 hours in #Albany, NY. #DateDiane #pleaseRT— Kate Hoit (@KateHoit) October 9, 2015
The Twitter campaign to find the New York mother a date surfaced Thursday night from the efforts of ex-Army Reserve member and current Best Daughter in America, Kate Hoit. She started #DateDiane after she had flown to New York to join her mother for dinner and realized what the dating scene was missing. As first reported by the Times Union, Kate had long watched her mother subsist on her own for a decade, living in Albany, New York, with two cats after Kate's father, Bill, was transferred to an assisted living facility due to his Alzheimer's disease.
Before the onset of Bill's illness, the couple commuted every day together to the Schenectady school district where they both worked. As the courting story goes, Bill was the first to make a move when he spotted Diane dining at the restaurant where he worked. The two have been married for close to 34 years, and Diane visits Bill every Sunday.
Sadly, though, Diane has lived on her own for in the ten years since her husband was diagnosed with the disease. Often her Sunday visits put her face-to-face with a man that often does not recognize or associate her face with another caretaker versus his cherished wife, reports the Times Union -- hence the daughter's campaign for companionship.
Besides being a standout where she works, in the guidance department at the Washington Irving Educational Center, Diane is a brassy ball of fun and dance moves.
Why you should #DateDiane? She's got moves. #albany #ny pic.twitter.com/B32b4ZUMFB— Kate Hoit (@KateHoit) October 9, 2015
Her daughter uplifted Diane's general cool personality by doing a top-notch job with her dating profile, highlighting her mother's overall compassion, but also her love for traveling, dancing, music and watching hockey.
So go ahead, support the cause for a wonderful lady who enjoys sports and cats -- total package, right? #DateDiane before someone snaps her up.
