Deleted YouTube Videos? Delutube

We're not really sure why we're suddenly being mailed links to check out Delutube - perhaps because Viacom's pulldown and lawsuit have led people to look for missing clips. The site, which went live at the end of last week, is the first port of call for those who see that familiar YouTube message: "This video has been removed due to terms of use violation". Just enter the YouTube ID to see if your video is there.

As it turns out, YouTube displays that warning message for some time before the actual .flv file is deleted - Delutube just plays the clip from YouTube's servers. As a result, it's only good for an hour or so after the video is pulled - after that, it'll disappear from Delutube, too.

Obviously the ultimate implementation of this idea would save the clip on a server forever, but that would be totally illegal - it would be a repository dedicated almost entirely to copyrighted or offensive clips.
