'Back in Time' Documentary Explores Iconic DeLorean Time Machine

As the 30th anniversary of Back to the Future approaches, one Kickstarter team wants to celebrate a very specific part of the iconic sci-fi film: the DeLorean.

Filmmaker Jason Aron created a Kickstarter project to fund Back in Time, a documentary that discusses the cultural significance of the car-slash-time machine hybrid during the 1980s, sharing stories of how moviegoers connected to the DeLorean, as well as how some fans actually ended up buying the original movie-prop cars.

The film includes interviews and testimonies with prominent super fans, including Bill and Patrick Shea, car enthusiasts who hold the only privately owned "DeLorean time machine" used in the films, as well as philanthropists Terry and Oliver Holler, who traveled the world in their "time machine."

Back in Time has surprassed its original funding goal of $33,120. A $10 pledge will nab backers a digital download.

Filming and editing will take place during the next two years, as the crew plans to debut Back in Time on the 30th anniversary of the original film’s release in 2015.
