Delta apologized on its Twitter account Tuesday afternoon after its Facebook page was hacked and some potentially offensive links were shared.

One link that was shared there featured an image of a bowl of so-called Chinese penis fish referencing a sex act. A second simply featured a heavy-set woman.

"The Delta Facebook page was compromised," the airline's media department tweeted less than an hour after it was hacked. "We sincerely apologize for the unauthorized, objectionable content that was posted," it said.

Facebook users who replied to the post knew it wasn't standard Delta content.

"Poor Delta," said Brittany Thurman, a Facebook user on the page. "I sense a public apology will be announced shortly."

"I think Delta's Facebook has been hacked," added Alex Ward. Others cracked jokes or posted pictures.

Although it apologized, Delta did not appear to have control over their page for nearly an hour. Eventually the posts were removed.

Mashable reached out to Delta and a spokesperson for the company responded, "At this time the statement we’ve posted in Twitter is all I can provide."

The hacked content was similar to posts that appeared on Crayola's Facebook Page in mid-January.

The brand apologized for that hack but the culprits were not identified.
