After a 21-year-old man was found dead in the swimming pool of Demi Moore's Los Angeles home this weekend, the actress has released a statement saying she is in "absolute shock."
"I was out of the country traveling to meet my daughters for a birthday celebration when I got the devastating news,” Moore said in a statement provided to Mashable. “The loss of a child is an unthinkable tragedy and my heart goes out to this young man’s family and friends. I ask that you please respect the privacy of all concerned during this sensitive time.”
Officials say the man died on Saturday night, but his body was not discovered until Sunday morning.
Neither Moore nor anyone in her family was at the house at the time, police say. Moore's caretaker was throwing a party when the man, who apparently did not know how to swim, slipped and fell into the pool. A "limited amount" of alcohol was involved, TMZ reported; there was no foul play.
About six people were at the party thrown at Moore's house. The man's death has been ruled an accident.
