Vuguru - This news was going around of the weekend, but we're getting mails about it once more today: Michael Eisner, the former Disney CEO, is backing Vuguru, an independent video production company. Vuguru's productions will be available on multiple platforms, including YouTube and Veoh (Eisner is on Veoh's board of directors). The company first drama series, Prom Queen, will start appearing on video sites on April 2nd. Looks like user-generated content is starting to get competition from the pros.

Democracy - Democracy Player, the open source internet television app, is no longer called Democracy. With too many users assuming it had something to do with politics, it will now be known as "Miro". (via)

Topix.com - News site Topix.net has bought the Topix.com domain for $1 million and plans to move the site to that new location, says the WSJ. However, such a move would cause a major drop in traffic. Switching the domain of such an established business seems extremely risky.

vMix-NBC - Rarely discussed video sharing startup vMix is announcing the launch on Tuesday of an NBC channel. The content will include clips from 30 Rock, Heroes, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Scrubs and My Name Is Earl. Hopefully this is a case of NBC spreading its content over multiple sites, rather than planning a YouTube pull-out. (via)

Podzinger - Podzinger, which is owned by the defense department contractor BBN, says it has now analyzed and transcribed 1.5 million YouTube videos.

Family.com - Disney is set to launch Family.com, a community site for moms. The site will be announced on Tuesday and go live later this week. There's no word on whether it will rival the mommy-based social networks (MommyBuzz, MothersClick etc), but I guess we can assume it will. (via)
