Indian actor Dhanush is making his international debut with Uma Thurman in French-Iranian graphic novelist and director Marjane Satrapi's forthcoming film The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir who got Trapped in an Ikea Cupboard.

The film is an adaptation of Romain Puertolas' 2013 French novel by the same name, whose English translation became an international bestseller. Dhanush will star as Aja, a magician and fakir from India, who is sent to Paris on a secret mission by his mother. A series of adventures ensue in the form of a developing romance, a thrilling chase, as well as some Bollywood numbers. The film will be shot in India, France Italy and Morocco, later this year. It also stars Alexandra Daddario and Captain Phillips actor Barkhad Abdi, as well as Indian actress Seema Biswas.

Satrapi is best-known for her critically-acclaimed Persepolis books about growing up in Iran during the 1970s. "As I was watching various Indian movies, Dhanush became the most obvious choice -- his intelligence, his killer smile, his ability to enter fully into the skin of any character he played (and I can go on and on forever) made me confident that he was the one," she said in an interview.
