Digg is working on some pretty important upgrades to the comments system. So important, in fact, that the company is looking to get some extra feedback from users in order to determine the direction for the final touches. Digg has created a video to outline what the team has been working on.

So far, comments are no longer in Ajax. All comments are pre-loaded, so when you go to expand the comments on a particular discussion, they're ready to go. It won't take forever and a day to load the comments anymore, but to keep the page size manageable, comments will be loaded 50 at a time. Another complaint from users has been the cluttered layout of Digg comments. This has been cleaned up with a few tweaks here and there, such as the removal of boxes around nested comments, and permalinks with time and date stamp appearing below usernames on the left hand side of the screen.

This is an interesting feature that incorporates some coComment-like functionality, and is a highly needed addition for the optimal management of one's Digg participation.
