Digg has just released a new version of Digg the Candidates today. This portion of Digg is a dedicated segment for candidate-related news items, and has become a hub for aggregated political content and crossfire.
The updated version isn't very different from the previous one, but it does boast a cleaner look. Introduced some months ago, Digg the Candidates takes full advantage of this historic election year as well as its own social news and bookmarking utilities, such as the ability for Digg users to submit relevant content from across the Web.
Digg the Candidates provides a self-promotional marketing platform that the candidates themselves can take advantage of, with subsequent participation from members of the Digg community. This has its inherent issues in terms of potential gaming, but the Digg community has seemingly taken to the new candidate-specific section. Constant tweaking and updates to this portion of Digg will result in a blueprint for more dedicated segments to come in the future. Digg has already released another topic for the Olympics, which was also announced today.
