LONDON -- Hundreds of emergency services staff and thousands of volunteers are taking part in a huge disaster training exercise across London this week.

The exercise, which is reportedly Europe's largest, simulates a scenario based around a big tower block collapsing onto Waterloo tube station.

It's taking place at four different venues in the capital over four days as well as an old, disused power station in Dartford, Kent.

2000 people have signed up to play casualties and members of the public during the exercise, with many dressed in fake blood and dirtied clothes to add to the realism.

Members of the fire brigade, police, and ambulance services are using the scenario to practise what to do in such a situation.

Over 70 partner agencies, including local councils, utility companies and search and rescue teams are also involved, according to reports, as well as disaster victim identification teams from several other countries including Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Italy and Spain.

Here's how the first morning of the exercise played out.
