What would it take to keep you off your phone for the duration of a meal? Would a discount help?

A Los Angeles restaurant is hoping a 5% from your meal will keep you off your phone while you eat. Patrons interested in the discount must check their tech at the door before being seated at Eva Restaurant on Beverly Boulevard, reports the KPCC.

This discount, of course, suggests that the restaurant feels there's something to be gained from keeping people disconnected. Chef and owner Mark Gold calls the offer a tactic to avoid distracted dining.

"It's really not about people disrupting other guests. Eva is home, and we want to create that environment of home, and we want people to connect again," he said. "It's about two people sitting together and just connecting, without the distraction of a phone, and we're trying to create an ambiance where you come in and really enjoy the experience and the food and the company."

Should you take up Eva's technology-free offer, you're going to lose you're chance to capture the perfect Instagram shot of your meal. The restaurant, however, is willing to miss out on the free publicity offered by your #foodporn hashtags and checkins.

Do you think your phone prevents you from enjoying your meal and relaxing during your restaurant experience? Under what circumstances would you hand over your device? Let us know in the comments.
