You deserve a break from all this summer heat.

While you're spending your days in relentless rays and sweaty commutes, it's important to take a few minutes for yourself. There's not better way to do that than with refreshing spa treatment (without the spa prices).

Whip yourself up a cooling cucumber and aloe mask that is packed with skin-friendly essential oils. And don't forget to breathe deeply.

Cucumber

Aloe plant or store-bought gel

Tea tree oil

Lavender oil

Powdered milk

Knife

Vegetable peeler

Food processor*

*We used a coffee grinder for this tutorial, and it worked beautifully. Just make sure to clean it thoroughly afterward.

Step One:

Cut off about half a cucumber and peel off the outer skin. If you are leery about wasting food, feel free to save your excess peels for a recipe like salad or sushi wraps.

Step Two:

Remove the pith from the cucumber as well. You can also save the seeds to grow your own cucumber plant.

Step Three:

Blend your cucumber into a fine puree in your food processor. Or, you can use a coffee grinder like we did. Generally, blenders may be too large to fully blend your cucumber. You should have about two tablespoons of puree when you're done.

Slice the skin off your aloe plant to remove the jelly underneath. You can also use a teaspoon aloe vera gel from the store, if you don't already have a plant. Add your gel to the blender and combine with the cucumber puree.

Step Five:

Add about 5-7 drops of tea tree oil. This oil is particularly good for acne prone skin.

Step Six:

Add about 4-6 drops of lavender oil. Feel free to breathe it in, since lavender is great, calming aromatherapy.

Add about two tablespoons of powdered milk. You can add more if you want a more paste-like mask.
