How to Turn a Composition Notebook Into an iPad Case

All iPads need cases, but you don't need to spend upward of $80 on a piece of plastic. This do-it-yourself case can be created with household materials and personalized with a notebook that fits your style.

This DIY case also adds a layer of security to your expensive gadget -- who would expect a tablet to hide out in an old composition notebook?

Take a look at the photos below, then read the detailed instructions at the bottom of the post. After finishing your notebook case, share a photo with us on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #MashDIY, or share your project in the comments section below.

1. Cut the pages out and mark the height of the notebook on the plastic insert.

2. Cut out the middle part of the plastic so you're left with just the frame.

3. Cut down the corners and stop at the marked line, do not cut through the edge.

4. Fold the plastic at the line you marked.

5. Glue down the plastic, making sure the edges of the plastic and the notebook meet.

6. Sew a hair tie two inches from each of the outer corners on the back side.

7. Sew a headband 1 centimeter to the right of the spine (you can sew through the plastic if necessary).

8. Once the headband is sewn, cut the excess elastic on the bottom between the two stitches.

Enjoy your new case!
