LONDON -- It might sound pretty hard to confuse the very British soul pop singer Adele with the very American R&B pop megastar Beyoncé, but one British DJ managed it.

Chris Evans had Adele on his morning breakfast show Friday to talk about her new single, "Hello," and forthcoming album 25 and managed to mix her up with Bey.

"Don't you have this kind of alter ego that you pretend to become?" he asked her during the interview. "No, not really, I mean I chat a lot," she replied.

Eventually, she realised he was thinking of Sasha Fierce - Beyoncé's alternative character. "That's Beyoncé!" she said. "Sasha Fierce is Beyoncé's alter ego and she's now Mrs. Carter, I wish I was Sasha Fierce."

Twitter was amused and peeved in equal measure.

TOO FUNNY! Chris Evans to Adele: I hear you have a stage alter ego. Adele: No. Evans: So who's Sacha Fierce? Adele: Er... Beyonce.— Dan Wootton (@danwootton) October 23, 2015

Omg Chris Evans got Adele and Beyoncé confused and asked about her alter ego that was Sasha Fierce. 'OHMAHGOHD THATS BEYONCÉ HAHAHAHAHAH'— Aideen McCormack (@Deenerbom) October 23, 2015

The singer has said she's nervous about what fans and the public will think of her followup to the massively successful, multiple award-winning 21.

In the rest of the interview, she talked about her first ever gigs -- The Beautiful South at Brixton Academy, The Cure in Finsbury Park -- forgetting her words, and onstage microphone malfunctions, and the new record.
