"Every time I think it couldn't get more extraordinary, it surprises me."

The 12th Doctor could very well have been talking about the very first trailer for Season 9 of Doctor Who, released fresh from Comic-Con. The preview is dark, plenty dramatic, and features several faces, familiar and not. Did we mention that it also has Maisie Williams, a.k.a. Arya Stark?

The preview shows the TARDIS in various states of disarray, with interspersed snippets of some familiar villains (Daleks, Zygons) and a choicely dark narration from the Doctor himself.

"It's impossible, it's evil, I hate it... I want to kiss it to death."

Could he be talking about the universe?

It's worth noting that a very familiar face shows up: Missy, otherwise known as the Master -- the Doctor's chief nemesis. Though she was last seen being shot by a rogue Cyberman, Whovians know that death isn't necessarily final in the Whoniverse (Rory, anyone?). Michelle Gomez's Missy punctuates several shots in the trailer, lending weight to writer Steven Moffat's claims that she would be back in a monumental way.

Steven Moffat: "The way Missy comes back into the Doctor's life is something you probably wouldn't predict." #SDCC #DoctorWho

But perhaps the moment we've all been waiting for since the announcement of her guest spot is the sneak peek at Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams, starting at the 1:24 minute mark.

"What took you so long, old man?"

Looks like the Doctor and Arya Stark have history.

Doctor Who returns to BBC America on September 19th.
