Mayor Everett has arrived in office and he is putting his paw down -- no ifs, ands or puppy butts.

Lucky rescue dog, Everett, became the mayor of Reno, Nevada, for one day Feb. 11. He was bestowed with the unique position as part of a special SPCA's “An Affur to Remember" event. Everett's adopted parents attended the fundraiser and snagged the special prize for the unknowing and furry mayor-elect.

As the Reno mayor, Everett -- a Newfoundland/Labrador mix -- took on a whole grab-bag of responsibilities. The newly-minted community leader began his day at noon, when sitting mayor, Hillary Schieve, read the official proclamation within the City Council Chambers.

Next up for the day, Everett put on his amenable politician's grin in a citywide photo shoot, hitting all the major Reno landmarks.

Oh, and we should mention Everett also got to travel like the head honcho he is in a limousine escort.

To cap off his day, KRNV reports, Everett took a graceful bow back into regular civilian-dog life. The pup will also receive a retirement package for his service from the Executive Director for the SPCA of Northern Nevada, which includes a dog bed, a bowl, a gift basket and 60 pound bag of dog food.
