A spokeswoman for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has a theory for why Donald Trump's Twitter feed is so insult-ridden: He's tweeting while drunk.

"Out on Twitter there arose such a clatter, late night twitter-drunk Donald is back at it!" Bush spokeswoman Kristy Campbell tweeted late Monday night.

The Republican businessman has said that he does not drink alcohol.

Campbell's tweet came after a series of Trump missives, in which Trump was retweeting people who were attacking Bush's candidacy.

One tweet Trump retweeted included a photoshopped image of Bush picking his nose.

"@umakemeill: @FoxNews @JebBush @HillaryClinton @realDonaldTrump pic.twitter.com/uI6tmYH5ka"— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 29, 2015

In response to a user who said Bush's mother, former first lady Barbara Bush, was voting for Trump, the billionaire businessman replied "so cute!"

"@LandmanMarius: @realDonaldTrump @russgrand @JebBush Word on street is that @JebBush mother is voting @realDonaldTrump" So cute!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 29, 2015

Trump's Twitter feed has been a hub of controversy throughout the presidential primary cycle. It's allowed Trump to attack his rivals on both sides of the aisle, which often drive the news cycle.

It's also had its share of blowback for the GOP front-runner.

In October, Trump came under fire when a tweet from his account said genetically modified corn was creating "issues in the brain" for Iowa voters. Trump ultimately blamed an intern for the tweet, but he's now fallen into second place in the first-in-the-nation caucus state behind Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
