Donald Trump kept it short, sweet and in triplicate.

Trump's monologue on Saturday Night Live didn't linger, and it didn't shy away from the controversy surrounding the presumptive GOP front-runner. And it featured not one, but two of the show's Trump impersonators.

"People think I'm controversial, but the truth is, I'm a nice guy," he said. "I don't hold grudges against anybody. Like Rosie O'Donnell. She said some things that were hurtful and untrue. I said some things about her that were mean, and completely accurate."

Then he thanked O'Donnell for coming to the SNL set to support him, and asked her onstage. Out came Aidy Bryant.

"Sir, I have told you many times that my name is Aidy Bryant, I'm a castmember on this show," she admonished him.

"It's like she's a different person!" Trump joked.

Trump then said part of the reason he was invited to host was "I know how to take a joke." Good thing, too, as at that moment, Taran Killam and Darrell Hammond came out -- in Trump character -- to flank him.

And he wasn't getting offstage without someone bringing up his campaign comments about Mexican immigrants.

"You're a racist! Trump's a racist!" shouted an offstage voice that turned out to be Larry David.

"Why would you say that?" Trump said.

"I dunno, I heard that if I yelled that they'd give me five thousand dollars," said David, who had appeared in the cold-open.

Though the night belonged to Trump, Saturday Night Live opened on lefty MSNBC personality Rachel Maddow (played by Cecily Strong) hosting a "Democratic Candidates Forum" that included Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton and David making a reprise cameo as a very grouchy Bernie Sanders.

"Of course I hate you, I hate everyone! The only people I like are my seven adorable grandchildren," David-as-Sanders said. "The youngest one is so cute! He just turned 40."
