Three-year-old mobile game Doodle Jump released its biggest update ever on Aug. 23. The ninja-themed update featured the game's first storefront, where players could purchase new costumes and powerups.
This freemium approach was a departure for the $0.99 title; its main revenue in the past came simply from the original download of Doodle Jump. Though Doodle Jump sold 15 million copies cross-platform, creator Igor Pusenjak says the update wasn't meant simply to increase revenue. In a video interview with Mashable, Pusenjak explains why players now expect freemium content in their mobile games.
