Double Fine Opens Top Secret Game Brainstorm to Fans

Since 2007, video game developer Double Fine (Psychonauts, Brütal Legend) has dedicated two weeks a year to an "Amnesia Fortnight." The company breaks from its current project into small teams to develop new game prototypes. The exercise is intended to generate fresh ideas and game mechanics, and a number of prototypes have gone on to become published products. Founder Tim Schafer decides which prototypes get made -- that is, until now.

"This has been a very successful formula in the past, so changing it only makes sense," reads the press release.

Double Fine has announced that this year's Amnesia Fortnight will be completely open. Team members pitch video demos and fans will decide what games get made through an online voting process. After a fortnight (two weeks) of vigorous coding, fans will be able to purchase the prototypes through the Humble Bundle, a "pay what you want" model that benefits the charity Child's Play.
