The answer to this question is now readily found on iOS devices using the latest version of drchrono and its Electronic Health Record (EHR) platform for healthcare professionals. On Thursday, startup drchrono announced a major update to its app that will improve how payments for medical services are processed as well as provide instant access to patient insurance eligibility.

The Y Combinator startup says it's modernizing healthcare with its platform, which is now updated and available on iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and the EHR platform.

"By plugging a Square card reader into an iPhone or iPod touch audio jack, doctors and their staff can swipe credit cards and have the payment go directly into the physician’s bank account," the company's press statement reads. "Now, medical practices can take payments through an iPhone or iPod touch, which would reflect into the practice management software."

Health providers can use the free app to take their services anywhere and even see what economic stimulus incentives they qualify for under the HITECH Act.

No need to call an insurance company to inquire about patient coverage, with the app providers can access a comprehensive report instantly.

“Our focus is on creating a better medical experience for doctors and medical staff,” wrote Michael Nusimow, co-founder and CEO of drchrono, in a press statement. “Adding real-time health insurance eligibility information into the platform as well as mobile payment processing, we’ve provided some simplicity and a little bit of ease to a profession that is undoubtedly stressful on a daily basis. Ultimately, our goal is to have the technology fade away into the background while physicians focus on what matters: the patient.”
