Droid 2 Arrives on Verizon This Week

It appears that earlier reports were correct –- Verizon has confirmed that the Droid 2 will be available online starting tomorrow, August 11, and in stores on Thursday, August 12.

Most of the details about the successor to the original Droid had already leaked out, but in a statement issued this morning, Verizon revealed that the device will ship with Android 2.2, Adobe Flash Player 10.1, 8GB of memory, a 5-megapixel camera and a 3.7-inch display.

Although the form factor of device appears very similar to the original, there’s one very important change: the keyboard. Verizon describes it as a “symmetrical keyboard with raised keys for more responsive typing.” As most owners of the original Droid (including myself) can probably attest, the slide-out QWERTY keyboard was a bit awkward, so it will be interesting to see how much this has improved with Droid 2.

Verizon’s also confirmed that there will be a special R2-D2 version of Droid 2 in honor of Star Wars featuring a special design, as well as pre-loaded content on the phone.
