As photos, trailers and rumors have leaked about Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, a new star has emerged: BB-8, the small, chipper, spherical astromech droid.
Droids (or androids) are an integral part of the Star Wars universe. The first characters audiences met in the original 1977 film were C-3P0 and R2-D2. Their galaxy is populated with robots working a multitude of jobs: soldiers, bounty hunters, mechanics, doctors, teachers and even nannies.
