LONDON -- easyJet has long been known for its garish orange colour scheme, which can be seen in every aspect of its branding, from the planes to the seat covers and the crew's shirts. Soon though, the airline could be known as an unlikely pioneer of wearable technology.
New uniforms for cabin crew and ground staff have been unveiled to mark the budget carrier's 20th birthday, and the designs - created by London fashion house CuteCircuit - boast a range of portable tech.
For cabin crew, LEDs are embedded through the outfit, on shoulders, lapels and hems, displaying information like flight numbers and destinations and adding extra lighting in emergencies. Microphones are built in, too, to enable them to communicate with passengers, pilots and other crew members.
Back on the ground, engineers will also wear clothes adorned with LEDs, allowing them to work hands-free on inspection and maintenance, easyJet said in an emailed press release. Their uniforms will feature cameras to enable remote diagnostics and air quality sensors. The gear is also specially designed to improve visibility - something that could come in handy if the fog descends again.
CuteCircuit, the company that worked on the project, previously created a dress that receives and displays tweets, which was worn by Nicole Scherzinger. The company's creations have also been worn by Katy Perry.
The airline also unveiled an aircraft with new livery, made up of 100,000 holiday photographs.
