eBay has acquired t3-year-old social shopping discovery site Svpply for an undisclosed amount, the company announced Thursday.

Like Pinterest, The Fancy and Lyst, all of which Svpply predates, users can use bookmarklet and repinning tools to index their favorite product finds from other users on the site and elsewhere on the web. Users are encouraged to discover new styles and click through to purchase.

In a corporate blog post, eBay implies that the acquisition is mainly about gaining "access to technology talent" to improve its own products. "Svpply.com assets -- including a talented team of six designers and developers -- are well-suited to help eBay advance more personalized experiences and merchandising options on eBay.com," Cicely Wedgeworth, editorial manager at eBay, wrote. The team will work on merchandising, non-search discovery and browsing at eBay's New York office, she added.

In other words, it seems that Svpply's days as a standalone product are likely numbered. We've reached out to eBay and will update this post with any more information. UPDATE: An eBay spokesperson says Svpply will not be shutting down.
