eBuddy for Android launches today and joins Meebo IM, Hi AIM, and Skype in the communications category. A direct competitor to Meebo, eBuddy's free instant messaging application supports multiple chats for AIM, Facebook, ICQ, Google Talk, Yahoo, and MSN Messenger.

eBuddy's background running application touts a buddies tab that combines all friends across configured IM accounts, a chats tab to manage multiple open chats, and an accounts tab for adding each of your preferred IM services. Users can add new buddies in the app, organize pals into groups, and sort by IM account type.

Some other features Android users should love include optional audio notifications for new messages, status updates, emoticons for every IM service, and automatic reconnect if their internet connection is lost.

According to eBuddy, their Mobile Messenger for J2ME phones has been downloaded over 20 million times. If that's the case, then we expect their free Android app to challenge existing IM options, and give Meebo IM a solid competitor in the Android Market.
