If Eddie Murphy was among the cast members you hoped would return to help the show celebrate its 40th season -- he was on our list -- then here's some good news today:

Speaking to TV One’s News One Now, the actor said he was expected to return for the three-hour 40th anniversary broadcast.

The news came after Murphy was asked why he’d never hosted an episode of the long-running program.

"It's just timing," Murphy said. "It never worked out where the timing was right for me to do it ... actually, they are having a 40th anniversary, I think, in two weeks. I’m going to that. That will be the first time I have been back since I left.”

NBC has yet to officially announce its line-up for the special, airing Sunday, Feb. 15 from 8 to 11 p.m. on NBC.

Murphy was on SNL from 1980-84, alongside the likes of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Robin Duke and Jim Belushi.
