Street style photography is not simply a modern sensation. Photographer Edward Linley Sambourne (1844-1910) captured everyday fashion in the early 20th century. In addition to being an enthusiastic amateur photographer, Linley Sambourne was an illustrator and the chief cartoonist of English magazine Punch. Originally taking up photography to improve his design work, he used photographs of friends, family and servants as reference models for his art. According to his wife Marion's diary, his photography eventually moved from hobby to obsession.
Linley Sambourne took these photographs on the streets of Kensington, London, near his home in 18 Stafford Terrace, now a museum.
