According to MacWorld, EA plans to debut Madden, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, Wolfenstein RPG, FIFA Soccer, NBA Live, Spore Creatures, Mystery Mania, American Idol, Command & Conquer, SSX (Need for Speed and The Sims 3 in the app store, with the first games being released this Spring.

As an avid player of several of these titles on Xbox 360, I’m really curious to try these games and see how they work. Duplicating the functionality of Madden or NBA Live without a controller (or even a keypad on iPhone/iPod Touch) seems rather difficult to imagine, though I could definitely see PGA Tour being a fun game, making use of the accelerometer to simulate a golf swing, much like SGN’s iGolf application.

Will things like your saved dynasties or player profiles carry over to mobile? That seems like one of the more exciting prospects of EA taking its sports titles to handsets, but not many details are available yet, including pricing for the games. Currently, EA Mobile sells Madden for other mobile platforms for $2.49/mo or $6.99 for unlimited usage – a model that could probably be adapted to fit the app store’s new pricing options.

The possibilities with EA Mobile expanding its sports titles to iPhone are quite exciting. While early versions might not deliver everything I’d like to see, the brand recognition many of these titles have will likely make them popular entrants into the app store.
