Back in June, Twitter started allowing users to embed a tweet within another tweet when using iOS or Android. Now the same function is available on Twitter.com.

Prior to the change, embedded tweets would show up as links at the end of a Twitter post when viewed on a computer screen. Now users see a minimized version of the embedded tweet within the outer tweet.

The feature isn't quite intuitive, and has its limitations. You only get the miniature embedded tweet when it is posted at the end of a new tweet, rather than in the middle or beginning:

Twitter declined to comment on the matter or explain why the embedding option was released on mobile operating systems first -- but the site often experiments with features on its iOS or Android apps before expanding them to the web version.

"With the majority of our users accessing Twitter from a mobile device, it’s important for us to be able to test on mobile," Twitter said in a blog post last year. "Over time, you’ll continue to see us test and introduce new features first on mobile."
