Cultural heritage sites around the world are at risk, threatened by war, economic uncertainty and political insecurity.
But these sites are steeped in history and serve as priceless monuments that chronicle our own heritage.
The World Monuments Fund (WMF), a New York-based nonprofit preservation organization, announced new list of the sites around the world that are most at risk on Thursday to call attention to their plight. The 2016 list features 50 sites in 36 countries, dating from prehistory to the twentieth century. The organization hopes its endorsement will help save these sites.
