LONDON -- There are reports of casualties after an explosion at the site of a power station in Didcot near Oxford. Emergency services are describing it as a "major incident."

Thames Valley Police tweeted that officers were responding to the incident, but didn't give any further information.

South Central Ambulance says it's sent six ambulances, two air ambulances and a hazardous area response team to the site Tuesday afternoon. The service could not confirm any casualties.

Eyewitnesses posted photos and videos to Twitter showing the now-collapsed section of the power station, which has been decommissioned since 2013.

The old coal- and oil-fueled plant is slated for demolition this year. Didcot also houses an operating gas-powered plant. However, the Oxford Mail reported that no demolition activity was believed to be scheduled for Tuesday.
