We invite you to share in one tweet or many how you are doing your part for the environment. Add the #ecogood hashtag to your tweets and tell us how you're making a difference. To see what others are saying, you can visit our Summer of Social Good partner, Treehugger, which will be aggregating #ecogood tweets throughout the week here.

Why the environment?

As Chris Tackett explains in his post on Treehugger, each of the four Summer of Social Good charities is in one way or another tied to environmentalism, conservation, and sustainability:

WWF is a champion for animal protection and environmental conservation. The organization's mission is "to stop the degradation of our planet's natural environment, and build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature." Similarly, The Humane Society is devoted to celebrating animals and confronting cruelty, and is doing its part to build a "humane and sustainable world for all animals."

Oxfam America creates lasting solutions to poverty, hunger, and injustice in the United States and around the world. When you consider that climate change caused by global warming can affect crop yields and growing seasons, cause droughts and impact regions in other ways that can reduce the amount of food in a region or even displace communities, leading to more poverty and hunger, this becomes an environmental cause.

Meanwhile, LIVESTRONG also has a stake in environmental sustainability due to the impact that food and products can have on our chances of developing cancer. Environmentalists want to reduce the dangerous chemicals that can be found in processed foods, insecticides and animal antibiotics, as well as many plastic products, paints, carpets and a wide range of other common household items.
