Attorney General Eric Holder is going to leave his post as head of the Justice Department as soon as President Barack Obama finds a replacement.

Holder, 63, made history in 2009 after becoming the first black person to be named attorney general. His five years in the role have been marked by his liberal views on civil rights, especially voting rights and same-sex marriage but also by major controversies such as the trial of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the "Fast and Furious" debacle.

Here are all the milestones of Holder's tenure as attorney general, in pictures.
