The ScoreCenter app sticks to what ESPN does best and challenges a very crowded space of sports-specific apps with real-time scores, live game details, game summaries and stats for 9 major sports.
ScoreCenter lacks the flash of the paid MLB application, but since it covers a wide array of popular sports, comes free charge, and allows for personalization, it's certainly not an application that strikes out at bat.
The app includes real-time scores for 500 leagues across 9 different sports — MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, Soccer, NCAA Football and Basketball, NASCAR, Golf, and Tennis. At launch, it's available in six different languages for 21 countries, with plans to add more languages and sports in future releases.
ESPN, though a little late to the game, seems to win out with the quality and quantity of information available, plus the huge advantage they have in being able to promote their app on-air and on their popular website.
