Some Etsy sellers pay premium prices for those search keywords, too. "Penis" and "vagina" cost $0.70 and $0.82, respectively. According to Etsy:
“Etsy’s search technology sets keywords and prices based on Etsy Shop Owners’ use and historical search data. This data is evaluated periodically and keywords and their prices are reset. For some keywords, where seasonality and trends matter, there may be a variance in price over time.”
And although some shoppers oppose the NSFW listings, Etsy maintains a relatively liberal policy surrounding mature content. A user must tag "mature" items and keep general search thumbnails "appropriate for general audiences." Oh, and nix the straight-up porn, too.
