Note-taking platform Evernote has released a reworked version of Evernote Web that speeds up performance and adds Facebook sharing functionality. It also adds Stacks for notebooks, and introduces a new user experience and interface.

"This is the first big redesign of the web client since we launched," says Evernote founder and CEO Phil Libin, whose two year-old startup just crossed eight million users a few a days ago. "The overall experience is much more modern."

Evernote Web users will now be greeted with a three-panel view interface with the notebook panel, note list and single note view appearing from left to right, as already seen in the desktop versions. The search box has been repositioned above the note list, and the email button has been replaced with a new Share button that allows users to share notes to Facebook or grab a direct URL to share with friends.

The Share button is the startup's first big attempt at making Evernote a more social experience. "This represents a new direction for combining personal memories with social memories," says Libin.

Evernote Web has also been upgraded with Stacks for grouping notes into folders, saved searches and multi-selecting and dragging for notes.

Evernote, which has made drastic improvements to its lineup of mobile and desktop applications, has heretofore left its web client a bit behind the times. "We had treated the previous version as a backup -- it was always there, but we would drive people to the apps instead," says Libin.
