Examiner.com Implements New Facebook Comments Plugin

Examiner.com is one of several launch partners — including Discovery.com, The Economist, SportingNews.com, Redbook and others — for the feature, which goes live Tuesday.

Justin Jiminez, director of marketing and PR at Examiner.com, says the program works like this: Users will have the option of commenting on Examiner stories using their Facebook profile. When they take this option, the comments will also show up in that user's News Feed. If the user's Facebook friends respond to the comment, then their comments also will appear on the Examiner.com story (see picture below). Facebook could not be reached for comment at press time.

The commenting platform, which competes with the likes of Disqus and other third-party sources, has been rumored since late January. At that time, a Facebook rep told Mashable the program is an update to a new plugin and not a new product: “Based on feedback from developers about ways to improve our existing comments plugin, we’re testing an updated plugin that leverages authenticity and social relevancy to increase distribution. We’re testing the plugin on our Facebook Blog and Developer Blog but have no further details to share at this time."

Though the spokesperson declined to elaborate, the commenting system was also supposed to include the option to log in via Twitter as well as Facebook, and comments can be "liked."
