Thanks to The Wand Company, you can now call in sick using a fully-functioning Star Trek Communicator. Not that we're going to do that ourselves, of course.

The Bluetooth Communicator, which you're seeing for the first time on Mashable, is an exact replica of the one the Enterprise team uses to enlist help from Scotty.

According to The Wand Company, the Communicator was made with structured-light 3D scanning to ensure that every curve and line of the original was replicated perfectly. It also comes with a stand that charges the device and holds it securely with an invisible magnetic catch.

You might not be able to make a call to outer space with it, but you can connect the Communicator to a Bluetooth-enabled phone to make and receive calls. Alternatively, you can use it as a speaker to play music streaming from your phone or MP3 player. (Party on the Enterprise!) And for the hardcore Trekkies, the device also plays authentic Star Trek sounds and recorded conversation fragments.

“With Star Trek’s 50th anniversary next year, we were thrilled to be able to make a real working Communicator, something we know the fans have dreamed about owning since it was first used in the show,” said Chris Barnardo, co-founder of The Wand Company.

The Communicator will be revealed at San Diego Comic Con on July 8, where anyone attending can experience it first-hand at the ThinkGeek booth (#3351).
