Eyealike Proves That Looks Are Everything

Eyealike is based on one of those ideas that seem awfully trite, but still might work simply because people love this sort of thing. It's a site that lets you search for a date based on looks alone; you upload a photo of someone attractive, and then the system browses through various dating sites and finds you the best real-life match.

You can also upload your own photo and see which celebrities look like you, but this is pretty much where the possibilities of Eyealike (which is still in beta) end. The idea seems like fun at first, but without the ability to create profiles, talk to friends and leave comments the entire experience is a bit bland. Furthermore, certain bugs (like an error message saying the image upload didn't work although the image was uploaded) show that Eyealike needs some more polishing.

As far as its face recognition algorithms go, the software told me I look like Jet Li, and that's pretty much all I needed to know. However, the whole idea will probably work better with more faces in the database. Verdict: 15 minutes of fun.
