After years of development and a number of false starts, Lockheed Martin's F-35B is getting closer to being in operation. Watch it stick a landing on the USS Wasp starting around 2:34, above.
According to WTKR, the F-35B is slated to be used by the Marine Corps in July after a 55-year history and 1.5 trillion dollars in development costs.
As you can see in the video, the jet can take off and land vertically, as well as hover.
It wouldn't be the first widely used jet capable of short takeoff and vertical landing. That honor goes to the Harrier Jump Jet, which debuted in the 1960s.
According to Lockheed Martin, the jet's ability to land vertically means the craft is capable of landing on damaged air strips.
