In all, this has followed a fairly predictable pattern. There was an incredible rush to grab usernames the moment they became available from rabid social media users, followed by heavy demand from active Facebook users in the ensuing hours, and since then, a steady but slowing pace of registrations as slightly more passive users login and see Facebook’s messaging about usernames.

From here on out, it will likely be a gradual process, where people begin to grab usernames when they see that their friends have them. The nearly 6 million usernames registered so far represent only about 3 percent of the site’s 200+ million users, so it will be some time until the majority of users are sporting their own custom URL.

Meanwhile, if you missed it over the weekend, Mashable’s Ben Parr was live at Facebook HQ for the launch. Be sure to check out his recap of the evening, which includes video interviews with the Facebook team.
