Redesign Revolt: What Should Facebook Do Next?

Given the controversy, what should be Facebook's next move? In my view, Facebook has three different choices in approaching the redesign revolt:

1. Stay the course: Facebook says nothing, addresses nothing, and charges on with its bold plans to change how we use the social graph.

2. Issue assurances to the Facebook community: In my opinion, this is the most likely outcome. Mark Zuckerberg publishes a blog post on the Facebook blog explaining, once again, his vision for Facebook. The company places a note at the top of the homepage and asks, once again, for feedback and discussion from users. But in the end, they don't change features.

3. Bring back some of the old homepage features: Facebook will not revert back to the old layout, but they might reincorporate some of the old features, such as events and applications, on the homepage. This is adding back some of the functionality Facebook lost.

I don't know how they'll approach the redesign revolt, but this is unlike past revolts such as the News Feed revolt because more features were taken away than added this time around. I think there's going to be more back-and-forth between Facebook users, bloggers, and the Facebook team before the dust finally settles.
