UPDATE: Facebook posted a blog entry Thursday that confirms the roll out of a "share button" on its mobile site, as well as on Android and iOS apps.

"You can now use the Share button on News Feed stories from your phone whether you're using the Facebook for Android app, the Facebook for iPhone and iPad app, or the Facebook mobile web site."

Facebook has introduced a "share" button to its mobile site.

The feature, which shows up on newsfeed posts alongside "like" and "comment" buttons, lets users post a link or photo to their own profiles, and gives them the option to add a comment. Like the desktop version, they can also choose to share with specific "audience" and "friends list" groups.

Long-requested by mobile users, sharing capabilities will soon come to iOS and Android apps, Inside Facebook reported.

"The company said there was no technical hurdle that made a share button difficult to implement on mobile,'" the website said. "Facebook simply never made it a priority."

When users click to view a post, such as the photo below, the share button appears smaller in size, and without the arrow symbol beside it.

As the button rolls out on mobile, sponsored posts, such as the one below, will likely get shared more often -- further widening the reach of brand pages.

Before this update, users were limited to sharing links on the desktop version of Facebook. What's more, the button only showed up when they viewed a site in the Facebook browser, and clicked for more options in the top-right corner, according to Inside Facebook.

Facebook did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
