Facebook has finally fixed this problem in a sensible way by adding Comments to Wall postings. In the same way you can now comment on Status Updates (which, seems to have become the most popular means of communicating within my network), you can now comment on Wall Posts, both on your profile and on those of your friends.
With this change, there isn’t much that you can’t comment on at Facebook. Status Updates, imported activities from services like Google Reader and YouTube, and even the events that you plan on attending all allow for commenting. But Wall posts and Status updates are still what drive most of the conversation, so opening up Wall Posts for comments is a small but highly useful change that will slightly alter the way that just about everyone uses the site.
