Facecloud: Flickr Fast Food?

Facecloud is a new site that has grown from a necessity for sharing images in a faster, easier-to-consume way. The man behind this new service, David Yu, has deemed Facecloud to be the fast-food version of Flickr. If you take the general concept of Twitter, with quick updates, mobile access, and the ability to share media by following or being followed, then you'll quickly grasp the design of Facecloud.

Images can be shared with the public, or just with friends. There's also the option of keeping all the images to yourself. From your profile, you can thumb through the tabs that shows image updates from your friends and yourself. The good thing about this particular page setup is that it's still very quick and easy to consume a great deal of media in a simply organized manner. Click on any image thumbnail to see the details and comments. You also get a bit of user information, such as how many users are following them, and how many users they're following.

A bit of helpful history about Facecloud: Founder David Yu had actually created another application called Ulist, which is a site that helps college students and parents keep in touch. What he found was that his users needed a faster, easier way to share media at any given time. Facecloud emerged as the solution, and it seems to work for that purpose.

What I couldn't help but think about as I explored the site was how easy it would be to take things to the next level by adding other types of updates. If Facecloud is designed after Twitter, why not just include the ability to create text updates as well? And if you're going to go that route, why not make the whole site more like Pownce or Tumblr, where multimedia updates are clearly delineated and easy to upload and search?
