When your next vacation is approximately six lightyears away (or so it seems) and the beach is calling your name, it's time to think outside of the box

You might not be able to book the next flight to Miami, but you could take a mental getaway.

You don't need a big budget or tons of free time to create a tropical mindset. A dash of creativity and a generous amount of self-tanner should do the trick. Check out 10 easy ways to fake a vacation. But be careful - you might end up so relaxed, you'll doze off at your desk.

1. Fake a tan.

2. Break out your favorite bathing suit.

3. Order a tropical drink at happy hour.

This is a cheaper option than you think. Most bars have great deals on margaritas, especially during summer happy hours.

4. Indulge in a beach read.

5. Set your desktop to a mouth-watering vacation locale.
