Off the top of your head, can you name three women from history? This was the question posed by English Heritage to members of the public, to which the collective response was "err."
People were also shown photos of female historic figures, but yet again they were unable to identify the women.
After being shown an image of Queen Elizabeth I, most answered with "no idea," while one man suggested "Queen Victoria?" Just a few centuries shy of the correct answer.
Rather depressingly, all were able to name famous men from history without a second thought.
