Will the crying over The Fault in Our Stars ever stop?
On Wednesday, fans of the John Green cancer drama -- now a majorly weepy motion picture -- were openly mourning on Twitter and other social media. Why? Because July 2 is the day Augustus Waters, played by Ansel Elgort (above left), died of cancer.
The thinking goes like this:
Hazel said that July 14th is twelve days after Augustus died today is July 2nd today is tHE DAY HE DIED I'M NOT OKAY #RIPAugustusWaters— PerksOfBeingAFanboy. (@LiamKelsall) July 2, 2014
There were those who acknowledged the deceased was merely a character in a book:
even if it's just a book character is not just a book character #RIPAugustusWaters pic.twitter.com/bsl9nlDmsm— Germany (@WhoaNiallGurl) July 2, 2014
All these #RIPAugustusWaters tweets are making me miss him. And like I know he's not "real" & I didn't really "know" him. But I did. I did.— Claire Bohn (@claire_bohn) July 2, 2014
even tho he was fictional, hes changed my life @AnselElgort #RIPAugustusWaters pic.twitter.com/KUqJ1hv2if— ámyduffyy (@aimee13__) July 2, 2014
And those who did not:

But in either case, the feelings were definitely real:
