As reported last night, FriendFeed launched an API to allow other developers to tap into the lifestreaming service. A few hours later, Mark found a WordPress plugin that had already been built on the new API, solving at least part of the problem of unifying comments on FriendFeed and on the original piece of content.
[img src="" caption="" credit="" alt=""]Today, word comes from fav.or.it, the social RSS reader we recently profiled, that they have used the API to allow users to easily share items on FriendFeed. CEO Nick Halstead shared some screenshots of how this works, since the feature won't be live in production for a couple of days.
In a nutshell, this allows fav.or.it’s early adopters to enjoy the same benefits already being enjoyed by users of Google Reader – sharing your favorite items from your RSS reader on FriendFeed. Since Google Reader is already one of FriendFeed’s supported services, you can simply input your shared items feed into FriendFeed to achieve the same effect as the new fav.or.it feature.
However, what’s also neat about the fav.or.it feature is it is side-by-side with options for sharing on Twitter and Del.icio.us as well – something missing from Google Reader. As you might remember from our previous review, fav.or.it also allows you to leave comments from right inside of the reader that will show up on the original story - one of the service's most unique features at the moment.
